With the statutory minimum wage of 8.50 Germany introduced, from January 2015, a binding wage floor in order to prevent wage dumping and to bolster fairness in the labour market. In practice, it must also be implemented and enforced effectively. Experiences from the United Kingdom show that this is a more protracted process, in which problems and regulatory loopholes have to be addressed by means of legal clarifications, practical assistance and new implementation strategies.
