Digitalisation and demographic developments are likely to lead to far-reaching labour market changes. This means an increasing discontinuity of individual life courses and career paths. The existing unemployment insurance thus needs to be developed further in the direction of a preventive and investment-oriented employment insurance. This would make sense both individually and macroeconomically, as this study shows.
