Zusammenfassung
Germany will soon be elected to join the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, but its two-year term on the Council from 2019-2020 could be a rough ride. As disputes over crises like Iran and Syria loom large and tensions between the Councils permanent members (P5) are rising, Germanys time on the Security Council brings an opportunity for Berlin to demonstrate that it is ready to play at the highest level of global crisis management, use its position to broker deals between the P5, and act as an advocate for stability during these challenging times.
