The fiscal situation in El Salvador is worrying and stems from structural and historical problems; however, the management of these by the public administration under the command of Nayib Bukele, instead of the establishment of measures for the financing and stabilization of public finances, has placed the country in an even more adverse situation. One of these measures has been the decision to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, which was, in addition to a decision taken without due public consultation, a measure implemented without a technical and political plan to support it, or, at least, without a plan that is public knowledge. This decision has even placed the country, among other things, in a situation of uncertainty regarding negotiations with international financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund.
