While many employers were forced to adopt remote work as a temporary solution during the global Covid-19 pandemic, it has proven to be a sustainable model that offers numerous benefits to both employers and employees. Whereas telework or hybrid work will continue to be a significant part of the modern workforce, is this true in equal measures across Europe? To find out, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, together with the Paris based Fondation Jean-Jaurès (FJJ) and the consulting firm Selkis, conducted a quantitative survey in six EU Member States: France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Spain and Poland. The author of this paper, Sarah Proust from FJJ/Selkis, reflects on the initial findings and discusses, if a uniform European model of work organisation is emerging and what this means for the crafting of progressive, employee-centred work policies.
