The end of the state of emer­gency has led to a normalisa­tion of political and public life in the country. Bulgaria has serious problems not only with the rule of law, but also with the freedom of the media, and it would not come as a surprise if a more acute reaction should follow from Brussels to Sofia in the medium term. The party system is facing new restructuring in the con­text of the upcoming parlia­mentary elections at the be­ginning of next year.
