Israels neue Regierung Nach eineinhalb Jahren in der Opposition kehrt der frühere Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanyahu zurück in das Amt, das er bereits bis jetzt länger innehatte als alle seine Vorgänger_innen. Die neue Koalition ist die am weitesten rechts stehende Regierung in der Geschichte Israels. Netanyahu verfügt mit seiner Likud-Partei, dem rechtsextremen Religiös-Zionistischen Bündnis und den zwei ultraorthodoxen Parteien über 64 der insgesamt 120 Sitze in der Knesset. In einem Telefonat mit Staatspräsident Yizhak Herzog versicherte Netanyahu,„im Interesse aller Israelis“ zu handeln. Besonders umstritten ist der wegen Unterstützung einer terroristischen Organisation mehrmals vorbestrafte Itamar Ben-Gvir, der Minister für Nationale Sicherheit und Kontrolle über die Polizei bekommen wird. Als nicht weniger problematisch gilt Bezalel Smotrich, der neben dem Finanzministerium einen Posten im Verteidigungsministerium erhält, das ihm weitreichende Befugnisse hinsichtlich der Verwaltung des palästinensischen Westjordanlands einräumt. Zu den Leitlinien der neuen Regierung gehört der Ausbau israelischer Siedlungen im besetzten Palästinensergebiet. Oppositionspoli­tiker_innen wie auch Stimmen aus Armeekreisen und der Wirtschaft äußerten sich zutiefst besorgt um die Demokratie Israels. The judicial override cla use doesn’t seem to bother them espe­cially. But without them, it will be very difficult to create a balance of deterrence against Netanyahu. (…) For sure, there are tech entrepreneurs who are happy with the coalition about to take power, but even they know that if it realizes half of what it has promised, the industry will be harmed. When The New York Times is writing about the next govern­ment, it will be harder to interest liberal entrepre­neurs in the innovative nation that Netanyahu talks about. It’s a bi t of a shame that only by making the case that the industry itself will be harmed can the high-tech entrepreneurs be coaxed out of their apa­thy. But at this stage we don’t have the luxury of picking and choosing those who are willing to fight.
