The right has one face in particular in Brazil: Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro was elected president of Brazil in 2018. In the election campaign, he campaigned on strengthening the military, more flexible firearms laws, tightening criminal law and, above all, suspending the promotion of gender equality. With these issues, he was able to rally behind him the so-called "Bíblia, boi e bala" (Bible, cattle and bullet), a coalition of religious conservatives, landowners and the gun lobby. What Bolsonaro's fight against "gender ideology" now looks like and what effects it has is explained in Flávia Biroli's case study Brazil. She takes a look at Bolsonaro's election campaign and his government, as well as the feminist currents of today that are resisting the anti-feminist government. For since there is no more equality-oriented representation in Brazil's government, more and more gender-political issues are being reformulated (and anti-feminist!).
