About the Friedrich Ebert Foundation The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung(FES) is a political, nonprofit, public-interest institution committed to the principles and basic values of social democracy and the labor movement. Named after the first democratically elected president of the Weimar Republic, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung was founded in 1925, the year Ebert died while in office. To honor his legacy, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung supports education, research, and international cooperation in the spirit of democracy. Headquartered in Bonn, the foundation maintains six educational centers and twelve regional offices in Germany. With eighty-nine offices in Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America and North America, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation is a major contributor to international cooperation, particularly in the fields of economic and social development, research and education, as well as political, economic and trade union cooperation.
